What services do Fear Free Behaviour offer?

What is the difference between training and behaviour support?

Dog/cat training is normally used as an umbrella term for professionals supporting owners with their pets behaviour. There is a difference between training and behaviour support, however sometimes the two can interlink. Training involves teaching brand new behaviours, whilst behaviour support involves treating problem behaviour into more desirable behaviour.

Do I need training or behaviour support for my pet?

This will depend on what you would like help with!

Training generally covers teaching your pet their name, recall, toilet training, loose lead walking, muzzle training, take it, drop it and others. Behaviour support generally helps with aggressive responses directed to people and animals, separation related behaviour, obsessive compulsive type behaviour, senior behaviour changes, and others.

What is the consultation process from initial contact?

After initial contact your enquiry will be assessed by Charlotte to identify if you will need training support or behaviour support.

Training support

  • You will receive a history form to complete and return to Charlotte, and be asked to send through your pets medical history ready for your introductory consultation.

  • Your introductory consultation will include reviewing your pets routines, creating your pets training goals, and how to read and understand body language.

  • From here practical training consultations will commence and you can begin to work towards your pets goals!

Behaviour support

  • The process is similar to training consultations, however a veterinary referral is required for behaviour support. This is due to increasing evidence that underlying medical problems can contribute to problem behaviour and may hinder the learning process if a problem is undiagnosed before behaviour treatment can commence.

  • This means you will need to contact your vets and request a referral to be sent to Charlotte through the referral form on the homepage.

  • The introductory consultation will include a review of your pets routines and behaviours along with a tentative diagnosis and treatment plan of the problem behaviour, along with information on how to read and understand body language.

  • From here practical consultations will commence and you can begin to work towards your pets behaviour goals!

How many consultations will my dog or cat need?

The number of consultations will depend on the type of support your pet will need and may vary throughout the process depending on the learning progress and development of your pets behaviour.

What locations are covered by Fear Free Behaviour?

Fear Free Behaviour operates across the Cannock area in Staffordshire within a five mile radius. Locations outside of the radius can still be covered but may be charged a mileage fee for in person consultations - please see the Terms and Conditions for further information.

Do Fear Free Behaviour offer online consultations?

Yes, Fear Free Behaviour offer consultations online. This can be very useful if you live further distances away from the Cannock area or if your pet shows aggressive behaviour towards strangers. Charlotte may request to have consultations online at any point if there is a safety risk to conducting the consultation in person and if it will help with the learning process for your pet in the early stages.
